Slytherin Head of House
Professor Kalen Kennedy has been the Slytherin Head of House now for just two years, but it’s been a great two years to be a Slytherin. I was able to be sit down with him again this year and talk about his second term as Head of House. Read on to see what he had to say about his Snakes!
First of all, welcome back! Last term was a little rough with, you know, everyone getting fired. How does it feel to have another year in the books without losing your job?
Thank you Miss McKinley, it’s mostly nice to be back, and yes last year was pretty rough. I certainly do not want to go through that again. As for your question, it feels good to have another year down. And to go out on a high note.
Speaking of, our new Headmaster seems alright. What do you think about him?
He seems just fine, as long as he isn’t like our headmaster last year. I’ll take it.
What’s the most annoying thing about being the Head of House? Breaking apart snogging students?
I didn’t have a ton of snogging students fo break up actually. Perhaps they were really good at hiding. But the most annoying thing would be hoping the students are okay with you as Head of House, you know? And trying to do a good job by them.
What’s the most rewarding thing?
Representing Slytherin was amazing. I was of course a Slytherin when I went to school here and to have things come full circle like that. It’s pretty incredible.
Lastly, if you could tell your Slytherin students anything before they graduate or leave Hogwarts, what would you say?
I would say, keep up the hard work and the hustle. All of them are going places, and I wouldn’t want any of them to give up on their dreams.

Slytherin Prefects
Who was that handsome he-snake patrolling the corridors this term? It was none other than veteran prefect Maxton Carden, a seventh year Slytherin who keeps it real. This man of few words graced us with his presence long enough to share a bit about his last year at Hogwarts.
Hey Max, thanks for answering some questions for us! Let's start with your partnership with Natalie McKinley. Was it a match made in Hogwarts, or a nightmare from the start?
Natalie McKinley...? She was bossy enough when she wasn't a Prefect so you can imagine how bad it got when she wore that badge. Absolute pain in the backside.
You seem like a guy who likes to stay out of the spotlight, but the whole polyjuice thing had all eyes on you. ...A few of you, actually. How'd that whole incident make you feel?
Honestly? At first, I thought it was pretty cool because imagine what you could get up to with a bunch of clones. When I found out Polyjuice was involved though... ughhhh, too freaky.
Be honest, do you think Zoryn Spinnet picks on you because she's secretly madly in love with you or what?
I don't know what her problem is but clearly she's constantly got Maxton Carden on the brain.
If you could teach any subject at Hogwarts, which subject would you want to teach and why?
I answered this question last time. Check last term's yearbook if you really want to know.
Right. Moving on,then...Inspired by the events of this term, would you rather be given ghost status by a hoard of hungry little pink monster things, or have to walk around covered in that long fur for the rest of your life?
Give me the fur any day. I'm still waiting for facial hair to happen so I wouldn't mind the extra help in the meantime.
Did you feel any pressure to be a good role model for the younger Slytherins?
Not really.
Considering that you're graduating soon, let's look back at your time at Hogwarts. Can you share your favorite memory with us?
Do I have to? Because I'd rather not.
Is there anything about the castle that you'll miss?
Easy. The prefect's bathroom.
What traits do you think a prefect needs to have to be successful?
If you're gonna break the rules, just make sure you don't get caught.
Is there any advice you want to give to the returning Slytherins?
Good luck, try not to die.

She's pretty, playful, and into pies. She's Natalie McKinley and she was lucky enough to represent the snakes as Miss Slytherin Prefect. We had a chance to sit down with this witty witch and get her take on the term, her time at Hogwarts, and what she'll miss the most about the castle we like to call home.
Thanks for taking some time out to answer questions for us, Natalie! First off, what's it like getting to work up close and person to Maxton Carden?
Okay, so Max is cute, right? But he's SUCH a dweeb. I mean that in a nice way. At first I wasn't sure how well we'd get along and honestly, I like to pick on him a little bit, but he's a good guy. You can't really get mad at him. He's secretly a big teddy bear. I had fun working with him and now we're good friends.
Being a badged seventh year, was it was easier to get younger Slytherins to do what you said? Not that you bossed them around or anything, but you know.. you had authority and age on your side. That's a pretty powerful combination.
Ummm, sometimes? Like, some of them are scared of you, but... some of the first years this term were actually kind of scary.
If you could only successfully brew one potion throughout all your years at Hogwarts, which would you want it to be and why?
Felix Felicis. I'm terrible at remembering things for exams and I'd love to be lucky enough to pass them all.
Be honest, which professor at Hogwarts was your favorite this term?
Headmaster Trent, I think. He seems cute. I mean, cool.
Hogwarts can be a crazy place, the furry students walking the halls this term clear evidence of that. What's the craziest thing you've seen in your time at this castle?
Probably just that! I've never seen anyone quite as hairy as some of our classmates this term. The other thing is probably Professor Dopple not realizing she had turned into a ghost.
If you could only eat one house elf made meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Definitely the pies. Meat pies, fruit pies. Any pies. They're SO good.
Do you think it's more important to be right, or be kind?
That's tough, because I LOVE being right. But I've discovered recently that sometimes, even when you feel like you're right, it's more important to be kind so you don't ruin an important relationship.
Who is your biggest role model?
This may be a bit corny, but both my mum and my dad. My mum is smart, super smart. And my dad is very kind. I'd like to be a combination of the two of them.
Being that you're graduating, what's something about Hogwarts that you're really going to miss?
There's going to be a lot of little things that I'll miss. The grounds, the lake, some of the professors, definitely the castle. Hogwarts just kind of... gives you a good feeling. It's sort of my second home. I'm excited to move on, but I think I'll miss... a little bit of everything.
Any words of advice for the returning Slytherins, Miss Prefect?
Okay, listen. It doesn't matter who likes you or who doesn't like you. In fact the people who DON'T like you just straight-up don't matter. Do your homework. Make sure you have fun. Don't stress too much, but make sure you do all your assignments. Find a balance. There. Yeah. A balance is good. That's my advice.
